This is the perfect filter for our use. It fits snugly in our mugs, its cap preserves the heat for brewing, the gold filter is impeccable and easy to clean.
This item is great for preparing ~8 fl oz cups of tea. If you use a regular-sized ceramic coffee sort of cup, this will fit fine.Cleaning is a breeze. I personally wouldn't expose this to any sort of detergents. Obviously this is not meant for big mugs and such. I think running through the dishwasher kinda defeats that main purpose. The lid doesn't seal onto the top in any ways, so dont just think that you can drop it in to a bigger cup. I was surprised how much room the tea leaves took up once they were given enough room to expand in this thing. I don't see why other reviewers would have even bothered running this through a dishwasher.
If the cup is too wide for this to sit on, it's not going to work with that cup. People who knock off points for this not fitting their particular favorite drinking cup need to read the product dimensions and take measurements or something. The entire purpose of this fancy, gold-plated filter is to make tea with the best, fullest, least-altered flavor as possible. Just follow the instructions on the box and rinse it good with hot water when you're done using it and cleaning it will never be a bother.
This further restricts the diffusion of tea into the water. I will upload a picture of the two filters side by side in two weeks but for the moment let me just describe their sizes.TF300 is smaller than the little cup you see in the washroom on a plane (economy class, that is to say.). I bought TF300 after buying and loving my TF500. TF500 is slightly slightly bigger than the small paper/plastic cups (for soda, etc) that you can get in supermarkets. Hence, it does not allow tea leaves to expand sufficiently. More importantly, its bottom is completely made of plastic, unlike TF500 which has a further layer of filter. It fits most of my mugs perfects though it touches the bottom of one of my mugs. Bottom line is: to make a perfect cup of tea, buy TF500 with a large mug.
It's small, holds very little tea and is inadequate all around. I bought the gold filter in California because I left my Finum Tea Filter in Florida. What a waste of money. The Finum Filter that Amazon sells is the best, holds enough tea, fits well on a cup or mug and washes easily, even goes in the dishwasher. Just bought two more of them and will take them with me whenever I travel.
I would recommend this tea filter to anyone looking for one with very small holes. It's easy to clean and the perfect size for a single cup of tea. Makes it perfect for Twinings loose leaf teas and any other brand with small pieces. So far, I haven't had any problems with tea dust or loose pieces floating in my tea. I use mugs that hold anywhere from 10 to 16 ounces and this filter fits great in them all. It's more than some others out there, but I am glad I spent the extra and am excited to keep using it.
